I’ve noticed lately that more and more women in the spotlight are speaking their truth out loud. Asking questions and challenging the unspoken status quo’s more than ever before.
Sheryl Sandberg COO of Facebook and author of Lean In was interviewed with Richard Branson by Bloomberg’s Emily Chang last week and when asked if women can have it all instead of answering the question Sheryl turned to Sir Richard and asked him has he ever been asked that question? Incidently the answer was no Interview is here
Sheryl Sandberg, a self made woman has also spoken up about what successful women come to know well. The more successful, bold, brassy and the higher the rise in profile for a man, the more they are liked and accepted, yet for women, the higher the rise, the more they become dissed, loathed, and pilloried.
At the Academy Awards this year Best supporting Actress Patricia Arquette used her speech and the knowledge of a billion viewers to advocate for equal pay for women. Meryl Streep, (my all time girl crush) loudly whooped and cheered for her. Both were criticized the next day.
Today I laughed so hard at the wonderful video that Amy Schumer, Patricia Arquette, Julia Louis Dreyfus & Tina Fey made on agesim and sexism in their industry
Yes were speaking out, Were not staying silent as often, and were standing up and saying HEY, that’s incorrect, not right, unfair, sexist, discriminatory… keep going I say
P.s As I’m typing this Catherine Job is on 60 minutes, who has spoken out and challenged the historians with new research and evidence that contradicts long accepted ANZAC history – go girl.
