Another year to celebrate International Women’s Day has come and gone, and I must say that last Friday I was as ever proud to be a woman and to be part of an event that saw women celebrating women in the most supportive and moving way.
For those that couldn’t make it, let me set it up for you. Our theme was gratitude and the idea was to ask another woman to attend, BUT, there was a catch. Women from our network were asked to invite a women that they appreciate. A woman they have learnt from or admire. Someone whom they would like to give thanks for. It could be a family member, work colleague, friend or neighbour.
Now I know, that those who aren’t sentimental, [ insert groan here] found this a little tough, hec, those that can be sentimental found it hard and that’s EXACTLY the point. Why go through life soooo rushed, and sooooo busy, that we don’t have time to slow down, stop and share with another human being; “hey you know what? You’re a really special person in my life and I really appreciate all you have done for me”
Of course we are talking about amazing women here, so 90% of them took up the challenge and brought neighbours, sisters and friends to share in our morning tea. The tiaras never arrived, [they have been driving around lost in a courier van since Monday] and we had more than expected numbers at the last minute so we were a bit squashed, but all in all I think everyone enjoyed the celebration.
One of our highlights was that we put together an appreciation piece of most of the women that attended and its shown here again below for those that missed it. International Women’s Day is about celebrating who we are and also about embracing our diversity and all of the special qualities and talents that women bring to every moment
Thank you to Amanda O’Bryan for singing and Juliana for your heartfelt and touching sharing on your experiences as a teacher on the 60’s and to everyone in our network for coming. In my book you are all amazing. Andrea x
