When you put yourself out there | WWA

When you put yourself out there, how do you feel? I chat with women who describe a sense of foreboding when they take that symbolic leap off the cliff ledge to put themselves out there, either for a promotion, starting a business or applying for an award, a grant or even a loan.  Once of the reasons I started the Altitude Awards, was to encourage more women to put themselves forward for acknowledgment. Its the greatest challenge to  the all-encompassing imposter syndrome, and I think helps us gain perspective and clarity around our purpose or achievement.

During the awards process, we uncover the reluctant heroines. Wonderful earnest, unassuming women who are making a difference in so many lives and do not want to be ‘awarded’ or recognised. Whilst I can sincerely understand the reluctance and desire to keep out of such a spotlight, I sometimes wish that we as people can accept more comfortably a compliment or recognition for the contribution they make. I believe it to be more of a way to say thank you and to show gratitude for what they represent, how they have lead by example or paved ways for others.

It’s time for planning our Altitude Awards for the 2016/2017 season, and were opening up now for sponsors, category ideas and would love to have your input. I especially hope that we will continue to see a trend ion more women putting themselves and their work and achievements forward, no matter the size or category. Please drop us a line and let us know what you would like to see, or even whom you would like to nominate.

Whilst on awards, I was thrilled the other evening to be part of put yourself out there wwa_finaliststhe Blue Mountains Regional Chamber annual business awards, of which we are a finalist in the business leader category, along with a whole bunch of Women with Altitude members. I’m now completely unattached to the outcome, as when any of our members win it feels like we all have won.

This for me is the purpose, it doesn’t really matter who ‘wins’ I think everyone wins when they put themselves forward. I call it a win in a quiet place.

I wish everyone the best for the awards dinner on the 14th of October

For now, that’s me this holiday Monday, hope you’re all having a brilliant day
