Notice that the more we talk about sexism and gender inequality in public forums, the more we are starting to see the ‘outing’ of the subtle sexism that pops up constantly in our society and this week its the Olympics turn and the way that female athletes are discussed or regarded.
I get so mad when I hear these types of commentary and yet I think I was numbed to it once upon a time, so entrenched is the vernacular and commentators exchanges that I can honestly say that there were many times I just didn’t notice. This is the power of focus, education and discussion. Were noticing, we don’t like it and now we’ll call it out – come on girls lets speak up more often when you notice it. I love that this is has been called to attention at this years Olympics – I have not seen sexism called out at the Olympics before.
It started with trapshooter Corey Cogdell-Unrein’s medal win:
They didn’t EVEN MENTION HER NAME!! and just in case for a millisecond you thought that maybe they were over the 140 character limit, (lame excuse of course but I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt) No the above was only 66 characters. They could have listed Corey’s name and still fit it in!

We need to make sure that we keep hollering, keep having a conversation. its exactle the same as the racism discussion, We must keep pointing it out, naming it when it happens, educate and demonstrate Until next time, Have an awesome week
