Let us stop comparing | WWA

During the week, one of our members shared a book she was reading on comparing ourselves to others, and how de-motivating and draining it can be to your spirit.  I totally agree. I think we all do it, I confess that it comes up for me more often than I would like. There is no energy or empowerment in it. In fact, comparing ourselves, our businesses or careers to others only de-stablises our resolve and focus. An Olympic swimmer, for example, is concentrated on themselves and their own goals. You often here them saying they are there to swim their own race and to make their personal best. They have their headphones on, and they gaze down the lane with laser precision focus on their race plan. – Imagine if they were darting their gaze sideways and were focussing on what their competitor beside them is doing, They would lose focus and energy, self-doubt would creep in, and this would impact their result.

Here’s the thing. There is nobody else on the planet quite like you. You have gifts and talents and quirks and traits that make up who you are. You are here on your own journey. You are unique. The time and energy and focus that is your life is yours and nobody else’s. Please let us stop comparing or benchmarking ourselves against, others. Whether it be celebrities, competitors, family members – You are doing things your way, and you are doing great. – Let’s celebrate your diversity, originality and your goals, they are fabulous, and so are you!

Comparison is only useful when you are checking your figures or benchmarking results against your own goals. If you are using comparison to judge yourself against others, forget it, You’ll never win or be empowered by it, you need the energy for your own dreams

As Theodore Roosevelt said, Comparison is the thief of joy
