Using Social Media for Good | WWA

Happy New year to all. Last night I decided to plug into social media and take a peak at the lay of the land. I had disconnected from SM over Christmas, so I could eyeball my family and strengthen some frayed bonds with my girls and hubby after a huge year and a mad December.

What did I find? enough to make me wonder how a person can remain connected but not fall into the abyss of cynicism? Mass sexual assaults on new years eve, Strangers handing out offensive cards to commuters on the London tube from the overweight haters club, and tweets and opinions discussing how well or not well Carrie Fisher aka Princess Leia has aged. [For christ sake her film debut in Star Wars was 40 years ago and she was 19!] To top it off the next article that popped up was from Frank Bruni of the New York Times – Obnoxiousness is the new charisma. Are you kidding me? It was of course an opinion piece and he was referring to Donald trump and Ted Cruz and how their crass, un-researched fear mongering vitriol is winning them fans and possible voters.

Although I had to dig around social media to find the good, at least it was there to be uncovered. What about Ellen Degeneres winning the Peoples Choice Humanitarian award and then delivering an acceptance speech that warms the heart:

The force is indeed awake and we are constantly being tested from the dark side. I love that someone powerful in the influential world of media is still talking about kindness

Beautiful Kelly Maguire and her gift to a homeless woman on the way to the football:

I don’t go for its of new year resolutions, but I do think its important to have a focus for the year. Like chocolate I can never stop at one so here are my focuses for the year:

  1. Be more kind
  2. Don’t Hold Back
  3. Trust my intuition
  4. Apply boundaries

5.   Don’t take it all too seriously – laugh often

Whats your focus? please share with me!

Im on a working holiday enjoying the beach in Torquay, but were looking forward to kicking off 2016 with some great stuff for WWA – Look forward to seeing you all soon
